Bobrovsky Shines, Oilers Struggle
Panthers Take Early Lead
The Florida Panthers took an early 1-0 lead in the first period when Aleksander Barkov scored a power-play goal. The Panthers continued to dominate the play in the second period, outshooting the Oilers 14-5. However, the Oilers were able to kill off a 5-on-3 power play late in the period to keep the game close.
The Panthers extended their lead to 2-0 in the third period when Carter Verhaeghe scored a shorthanded goal. The Oilers had a chance to get back into the game when they were awarded a power play with just over five minutes remaining. However, the Panthers were able to kill off the penalty and seal the victory.
Bobrovsky was brilliant in goal for the Panthers, stopping all 32 shots he faced. McDavid was held without a point for the Oilers, who were outshot 32-23.
The series shifts to Edmonton for Game 2 on Saturday night.
